How Toyota records service data
Toyota GB uses the Toyota Dealer Management System (T-DMS / TDMS) to log every franchised dealer service against the VIN. Records include the service date, mileage, the service type (Intermediate at 10,000-mile / annual; Full at 20,000-mile / 2-year), individual line items (engine oil and filter, brake fluid, coolant, pollen filter, spark plugs), the dealer code, and any free-text remarks on additional work. Toyota UK's record-keeping is among the most consistent in the volume-brand space — records are reliably digital from approximately 2002 onwards, with strong coverage from 2005. The MyToyota app surfaces recent services for newer cars but does not show the complete dealer ledger; recall work, hybrid battery health checks, and older service entries often only appear in the dealer-system view. Toyota's hybrid battery health-check (a separate £100 inspection) is one of the most valuable line items to verify on hybrid models because it extends the hybrid battery warranty.
Toyota models we cover
Full UK Toyota range is covered: Aygo / Aygo X, Yaris (Mk2/Mk3/Mk4) and Yaris Cross, Corolla (Mk11/Mk12) hatch / touring sports / saloon, C-HR (Mk1/Mk2), RAV4 (Mk4/Mk5 inc. PHEV), Highlander, Camry, Avensis, Auris (Mk1/Mk2), bZ4X, Hilux pickup, Proace / Proace City van, Land Cruiser, GR86, GR Yaris, GR Corolla, Supra Mk5, Prius (Mk2/Mk3/Mk4 inc. PHEV), Mirai, plus the older Avensis Verso, Verso S, Auris Touring Sports and Picnic where on-system. Coverage is strongest from 2002 onwards. Pre-2000 Toyotas (older Corolla generations, Carina E, Celica) may have partial or paper-only records depending on supplying dealer.
Toyota-specific things to know
Three Toyota-specific things to know: First, the hybrid battery health check is a separate dealer line item, distinct from the standard service — without it, the hybrid battery warranty (Toyota's Hybrid Battery Extended Care, up to 15 years / 165,000 miles) is invalidated. Verify the annual hybrid health check is in the record for any Prius, Auris HSD, Yaris Hybrid, Corolla Hybrid, C-HR Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, or Camry Hybrid. Second, the older 2.0 D-4D diesel (in Avensis, Auris, Verso 2007-2014) had EGR cooler issues — verifiable dealer service history significantly reduces the risk. Third, Toyota service intervals are strict — Toyota Care, the manufacturer's relationship-warranty programme, requires Toyota dealer service at the right mileage / time intervals. A car serviced at independents will fall out of Toyota Care eligibility.
Why check Toyota service history before buying
Toyota resale value is closely tied to documented Toyota dealer service history — particularly because Toyota Care extends warranty cover up to 10 years (provided servicing is done at Toyota dealers on schedule). For hybrid models the annual hybrid battery health-check entry extends the hybrid battery warranty to 15 years / 165,000 miles. Cars with stamped-up FSH typically sell for 8-12% more than partial-history equivalents on the same model. For the GR Yaris and Supra performance models verify oil services were on schedule given the higher engine stress. Avensis and Auris diesel buyers should verify DPF and EGR cleaning entries appear in records.
