How Ford records service data
Ford UK uses the Ford Motor Company dealer management system (Service Pricing & Operating System / FordPass / Asbury), with VIN-keyed service records held centrally and synchronised across the franchised dealer network. Every dealer visit is logged with date, mileage, the service interval triggered (annual / 12,500-mile), itemised line items (oil + filter, brake fluid, pollen filter, spark plugs, cambelt where applicable, AdBlue refills on diesels), the dealer code, and free-text remarks on additional work. UK Ford records are reliably digital from approximately 2005 onwards, with strong coverage from 2010 when dealer-network digitisation completed. The FordPass app shows service history on newer cars but is a thinner customer-facing view; recall work, warranty repairs, and pre-FordPass entries often only appear in the dealer-system lookup.
Ford models we cover
Full UK Ford range is covered: Fiesta (Mk6/Mk7/Mk8), Focus (Mk2/Mk3/Mk4) hatch / estate / saloon, Focus ST / RS, Puma (the new SUV — not the Mk1 coupe), Kuga (Mk1/Mk2/Mk3 including PHEV), EcoSport, Mondeo (Mk4/Mk5), S-Max, Galaxy, Edge, Ka / Ka+, Tourneo Connect / Custom / Courier, Mustang, plus commercials: Ranger (T6/T7/Next-Gen), Transit (Mk6/Mk7/Mk8) full-size / Custom / Connect / Courier, plus older models that are still on the road (Capri, Escort, Sierra) where digital records exist. Coverage is strongest from 2005 onwards; earlier examples may have partial records.
Ford-specific things to know
Three Ford-specific things to know: First, the 1.0 EcoBoost three-cylinder petrol (2012 onwards, in Fiesta, Focus, Puma, Kuga, EcoSport, B-Max, C-Max, Mondeo and Tourneo) uses a wet timing belt that runs in oil — Ford updated the service requirement to mandate a belt change at 100,000-150,000 miles (varies by model year and dealer guidance). Verifying this entry in the record is critical; missed wet-belt service is the single biggest cause of catastrophic engine failure on EcoBoost cars. Second, the 1.5 / 2.0 TDCi diesel (in Focus, Kuga, Mondeo, Transit) has a DPF that needs verifiable regeneration history — missed long-runs and short-trip use can require a forced regen or replacement. Third, FordPass app history is sometimes incomplete for cars first registered before the app launched (2018) — the dealer-system lookup retrieves the full record back to first registration even when the app shows nothing.
Why check Ford service history before buying
Ford resale is highly volume-driven — Fiesta and Focus are the most-traded used cars in the UK — so documented FSH is a major price differentiator. Trade-in value typically differs by 5-10% between FSH and partial-history equivalents. The 1.0 EcoBoost wet-belt service is the single most important entry to verify before buying any 2012+ Fiesta, Focus, Puma or Kuga; without it, engine rebuild costs run to £3,000+. On Transit and Ranger commercials, dealer-stamped history is virtually mandatory for resale to the trade. PHEV Kuga buyers should look for the 2020-2022 battery recall work appearing in the record.
