Mini service history check — official dealer records

Check Mini service history online from official Mini dealership records, found by UK registration and delivered in minutes. £9.99 — card authorised but not charged unless we find records.

Mini coverage last reviewed: June 2026

The short answer

Can you check Mini service history online?
Yes, where Mini's dealers have logged the work. Franchised Mini workshops record each visit against the car's VIN, and we read that record from the registration for £9.99 — if nothing is on file, your card isn't charged. Mini is in our Full Service History tier. Itemised dealer records: the date of each franchised visit, the odometer reading, what was done and which dealer did it.
Is there a free way to check Mini service history?
Only if you own the car: a franchised Mini dealer can usually print the record, though some charge a small fee and you'll need proof of ownership. A buyer needs a paid check. MOT history and recorded mileages are free for any car.
Does Mini service history stay with the car when it's sold?
Yes. Mini's record is held against the car's VIN, not the keeper or the number plate, so it carries over to a new owner and survives a private plate.

What a Mini report can look like

Manufacturers don't all keep the same detail, so reports come in four shapes. We've opened the one you're most likely to get. Every entry below is made up; a real report lists the Mini's own visits.

Mini and its dealer records

Mini is a British brand owned by BMW with a strong UK dealer network. The Mini Hatch, Countryman, and Clubman are popular models. Mini uses BMW's Connected Drive system for comprehensive digital service records.

For a full walkthrough, read our Mini service history guide.

How Mini's digital service record works

Mini's service records share the BMW Group Dealer Management System with BMW — every Mini franchised UK dealer visit is logged against the VIN with the service date, mileage, the CBS-triggered service type (oil service, brake fluid, microfilter, spark plugs, brake pads/discs), the dealer code, and free-text remarks. UK Mini records are reliably digital from the early R-series cars (R56 Hatch onwards, 2007-2014) and have strong continuity through F-series (F55 / F56 / F60 Countryman, 2014-2024) and current J-series. The Mini app (formerly Mini Connected) shows recent services for newer cars; the dealer system holds the complete record including recall work, warranty repairs, and pre-Mini-Connect entries. Mini TLC service packs (the manufacturer's prepaid service-plan product) are tracked through the same dealer system — verify entries match the TLC contract on cars where this was bought.

Where to find your Mini service history

A car's history is usually spread across a few places, and it is worth checking each one.

  • Mini's dealer system. Every franchised Mini workshop logs its visits against the car's VIN. A Mini dealer will usually print them for the owner; anyone else, a buyer included, can use the check on this page.
  • The Mini owner app, where there is one. Newer cars linked to an owner's account may show recent services there, but only to that account holder.
  • The paper service book. Stamps from dealers and independent garages alike. If it has been lost, a replacement from the manufacturer arrives blank.
  • Independent garage invoices. Work done outside the dealer network only exists on paper, so ask the seller for the folder.
  • The MOT history. It doesn't record services, but its free odometer readings show whether the service mileages make sense.

Want every route side by side, free and paid? Our guide to how to check a car's service history covers them all, with figures from 5,563 real checks.

Servicing a Mini: intervals and models

Mini service intervals

MINI uses BMW's Condition Based Servicing (CBS), which calculates each item from actual use rather than a fixed distance. There is no single published mileage interval — oil services commonly fall between roughly 9,000–18,000 miles depending on how the car is driven.

Intervals vary by engine, model year and schedule type — check the car's own handbook or service plan for the figure that applies to it.

Mini models we cover

Full UK Mini range is covered: Mini Hatch (R50/R53/R56/R55/F55/F56/J01), Mini Convertible (R52/R57/F57), Mini Clubman (R55/F54), Mini Countryman (R60/F60/U25), Mini Paceman (R61), Mini Coupé (R58), Mini Roadster (R59), Mini Electric (F56e), Mini SE Countryman, plus the full John Cooper Works range. Coverage strengthens dramatically from the R56 onwards (2007); pre-R-series (Mini One / Mini Cooper based on the original 2001-2006 R50/R53 platform) may have partial records.

Things to watch when buying a used Mini

Three Mini-specific things to know: First, the Prince engine (N12, N14, N18 — 2007-2015 in R56 Hatch and Clubman) had well-publicised timing-chain tensioner issues; strict oil-service interval discipline shown in dealer records is the best mitigation. Second, the Cooper S 1.6 turbo (R56) had carbon-build-up issues on the inlet valves due to direct injection — dealer records sometimes show a walnut-blast or intake-clean entry as part of preventive service work, which is a positive sign. Third, like BMW, Mini's CBS triggers oil services at variable intervals based on driving style — don't read irregular intervals as missed services, read the mileage on each entry. Mini Connected may not show all dealer entries on pre-2018 cars, so a dealer-system lookup retrieves the complete record.

Why check Mini service history before buying

Mini resale is sensitive to documented FSH because of the timing-chain and carbon-build-up risks on the Prince engine — particularly on Cooper S and JCW variants. Verified BMW Group dealer service history typically adds 8-12% to trade-in value over partial-history equivalents. For F-series and newer (F56 Cooper / Cooper S / JCW from 2014, B38/B48 engines) the timing-chain risk is much lower but oil-service discipline still matters. Mini Electric buyers should verify high-voltage battery health checks appear in records. Cars with verified TLC service-pack completion are particularly desirable as they had all servicing prepaid and dealer-recorded from new.

Free ways to see Mini service history

If you're the keeper, Mini dealers can often print the history for you, and the owner app may show recent visits. A buyer usually can't use either. Our free Mini guide explains each option and what it shows.

FAQ

Common questions about Mini service history

How do I check Mini service history online?

Type the car's UK registration into the form on this page. We ask Mini's dealer system for every visit logged against that car and show them in date order, usually within a few minutes. It costs £9.99, and the card is only charged if records come back.

How complete is Mini coverage?

Mini sits in our Full Service History tier. Itemised dealer records: the date of each franchised visit, the odometer reading, what was done and which dealer did it.

Where is a Mini's service record kept?

Mini's service records share the BMW Group Dealer Management System with BMW — every Mini franchised UK dealer visit is logged against the VIN with the service date, mileage, the CBS-triggered service type (oil service, brake fluid, microfilter, spark plugs, brake pads/discs), the dealer code, and free-text remarks.

What will I see on a Mini report?

Each visit a franchised Mini workshop logged against the car, listed by date: the odometer reading, the work carried out and the dealer who did it. Recall and warranty visits appear alongside routine servicing. The car's full MOT history is in the same report, so you can compare the service mileages with the readings taken at each test.

Why might a Mini with a stamped service book show no records?

Usually because the servicing was done at independent garages, which don't write to Mini's system, or because it was done before the dealer network kept digital records. A book full of independent stamps can be perfectly genuine; it just has to be backed by the paperwork rather than by the dealer system. If we find nothing, your card isn't charged.

Do I need the owner's permission to check a Mini?

No. The UK registration is all we need: no log-in, no ownership documents and no contact with the seller. That's why people use it before they buy, to compare what the seller says with what Mini's dealers recorded.

How do I tell whether a Mini was serviced on time?

Put the dates and readings side by side and look at the spacing. MINI uses BMW's Condition Based Servicing (CBS), which calculates each item from actual use rather than a fixed distance. Intervals differ by engine and model year, so the handbook has the exact figure for a given car. A gap much longer than the schedule is worth asking the seller about: it may have been an independent service with an invoice in the folder, or it may have been missed. The MOT readings in the same report fill in the mileage between visits.

Is there a free way to see Mini service history?

Sometimes, if you are the keeper. A Mini dealer will often print the history at the service desk if you bring the car's documents, and some Mini owner apps show recent visits for the car linked to your account. Neither helps a buyer looking at someone else's car, and we know of no public Mini website that shows the whole record. Our £9.99 check needs only the UK registration, and the card is only charged if records are found.

Does Mini keep digital service records?

Yes. Mini (owned by BMW) maintains comprehensive digital service records through the BMW Group dealer system. Every franchised dealer visit is logged with date, mileage, CBS-triggered service type, and itemised work.

Can I check Mini service history online?

Yes. Enter your Mini's registration number to retrieve the complete service history from the manufacturer database, including dates, mileage, oil services, brake-fluid changes, recall work, and TLC service-pack entries.

What Mini models are covered?

All Mini models are covered, including the Hatch (R-series from 2007, F-series, J-series), Clubman, Countryman, Convertible, Paceman, Coupé, Roadster, Mini Electric, and the full John Cooper Works range.

Does the Mini app show all service records?

No. The Mini app (Mini Connected) shows recent services for newer cars. Pre-2018 entries, recall work, and warranty repairs often only appear via a dealer-system lookup. The dealer record is the authoritative source.

What is Mini TLC and how does it show in records?

Mini TLC is the manufacturer's prepaid service-plan product covering oil and inspection services for a fixed period. Services completed under TLC appear in the dealer record as normal service entries — verify they match the TLC contract on cars where it was originally purchased.

Why is timing-chain history important on older Minis?

The Prince engine (N12, N14, N18, in R56 Hatch and Clubman 2007-2015) had timing-chain tensioner failures particularly on cars with extended oil-service intervals. Dealer records showing strict oil-service discipline are the single best predictor of timing-chain reliability.

What does Condition Based Servicing mean for Mini records?

Mini inherits BMW's CBS system — oil services trigger at variable mileage based on driving conditions (typically 9,000-18,000 miles depending on use). Don't read an irregular interval as a missed service; read the mileage at each service entry to confirm correct triggering.

How does service history affect Mini resale?

Mini resale is sensitive to FSH, particularly on R-series Cooper S and JCW variants because of the Prince engine timing-chain risk. Verified BMW Group dealer history typically adds 8-12% to trade-in value over partial-history equivalents.

How to read a Mini service history

A list of dealer visits only helps if you know what to look for. Three checks cover most of what goes wrong with a used Mini's paperwork.

Line the visits up against the schedule

Look at the spacing between visits rather than the number of them. Visits roughly a schedule apart point to a car that was looked after. A long gap is a question for the seller, not a verdict, because the service may well have been done at an independent garage.

Make sure the odometer only goes up

Each visit records the reading on the day. With the MOT test readings in the same report, a figure that falls back, or one that doesn't fit between the tests either side, stands out at once.

Ask about the years the dealer didn't see

Dealer records stop once a car leaves the franchised network. For those years, ask for the invoices from the garage that did the work and check that the dates and readings on them fit with the rest of the history.

How payment works

  1. At checkout your card is authorised for £9.99, not charged.
  2. If we find Mini dealer records, the payment is taken and the report opens.
  3. If we find none, the authorisation is released. There is nothing to refund, because nothing was taken.

The car's MOT history is part of the same report. The link to your report keeps working, so you can come back to it or send it to someone else.
