What do I do if I've lost my car's service history?

Enter the registration above to retrieve the digital record. Service entries logged by UK franchised dealers are stored centrally in the manufacturer's system and survive even if the paper service book is lost. Most cars from 2012 onwards have recoverable records. No charge if nothing is found.

Why the digital record beats the paper book

The stamps in a service book are a courtesy copy of what the manufacturer already has on file. The real, authoritative record lives in the manufacturer's central dealer system. That record can't be lost, faked, or stolen along with the paperwork.

When you recover the digital record, you get the same information a buyer's main dealer would see — which is often more trusted than a book of stamps anyway.

What to do if your service book is lost

  1. Run a service history check using the registration above
  2. Wait a few minutes for the report to arrive by email
  3. Download the PDF — this becomes your replacement record
  4. Show buyers, insurers, or main dealers as needed
  5. If no records exist, your card is not charged

Will buyers accept a digital report?

Yes — increasingly, buyers actually prefer it. A printed digital report from manufacturer records is harder to fake than a stamped book and more comprehensive. Many used-car buyers and trade dealers ask for a digital check even when a service book is present.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I've lost my service history — can I recover it?

Often yes. If the car was serviced at a UK franchised dealer, the records are stored centrally in the manufacturer's system and can be retrieved by registration — even without the service book.

Does losing the service book reduce a car's value?

It can — buyers are wary of cars without history. Recovering the digital record (and providing a printed report) restores most of that confidence and often the resale value with it.

What if the car was serviced at independent garages?

Manufacturer records only cover work done at franchised dealers using the manufacturer's authorised systems. Independent garage history is harder to recover. MOT history (which we include) covers any garage that performed an MOT.

Can I rebuild a service book from this report?

Yes. Many owners use a printed digital service report as the canonical record when the paper book is lost. It includes service dates, mileage, dealer, and work performed — everything a stamp would have shown.

How likely am I to find records?

It depends on the brand and age. Most major brands (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, VW, Ford, Toyota etc.) have strong digital records from 2012 onwards. If we find nothing, your card is not charged.
