Hyundai tyre pressures

Hyundai i20 tyre pressure

The tyre pressures Hyundai prints in its handbook for each i20 tyre size, by generation — i20 Mk3 (BC3, incl. i20 N) (2020 on), i20 Mk2 (GB) (2015–2020) and i20 Mk1 (PB) (2009–2015). Find your tyre size on the sidewall, then read across.

  • 215/45R17 91V or 91Y: Printed bar (psi, kPa). Normal load defined as 'up to 3 persons'. Load table lists LI 91 with speed symbol V or Y. The MY25 (facelift) handbook prints the same table.
  • 215/40R18 89Y: Printed bar (psi, kPa). Normal load 'up to 3 persons'. A separate 'Track driving' (hot-tyre) figure is printed: 2.2 (32, 220) front, 2.0 (29, 200) rear - for the hot-tyre state after track use, 2 occupants, no luggage.
What the handbooks don't say
  • The i20 N's compact spare is T125/70D 17 98M, 4.2 (60, 420) (i20 N handbook); the generation's spare field carries the standard i20's T125/80D15.
  • 205/55R17 rows in the i20/Bayon table are marked '(CUV)' (Bayon) and are not included here.

Notes from the handbooks
  • 185/65R15: Load/speed table lists 185/65R15 as 88T and as 88H without saying which applies to which row.
  • 185/65R15: Maximum-load front printed as '2.6 (38, 360)'; the kPa figure is an evident misprint for the 2.6 bar / 38 psi beside it, so it is left null. The handbook does not define 'MSTA'.
  • 195/55R16: Load/speed table lists 195/55R16 as 87H and as 91V. The same cell also prints 2.6* (38, 260) for all four positions - see the next row.
  • 195/55R16: The handbook does not define 'MSTA'.
  • 205/45R17 88V: Load index/speed symbol from the 'Load and speed capacity tyres' table (p.8-5).
What the handbooks don't say
  • Three pressure sets are printed for 185/65R15 (standard, ECO PACK*, EUROPE PACK) and two for 195/55R16 (standard and '*'); the handbook does not say which UK trims carry which - the door-pillar label is the tie-breaker.
  • Pre-2018 (pre-facelift) edition not read separately.

Notes from the handbooks

  • 195/50R16: Printed kPa (psi): normal 230 (33), maximum load 250 (36), front and rear; table headed 'Except India'. Maximum-load column footnoted '*1 Except Japan'.
What the handbooks don't say
  • The handbook prints no load index or speed symbol.
  • Only one (general 'Except India') edition read; the 2012 facelift is not separately verified.

Figures marked "Maker's handbook" link to the maker's own document. "Reported" figures are the maker's, read from a copy we could not get from the maker directly. A figure marked ≈ has been converted from the unit the handbook prints. Nothing here has been checked against your car: if it disagrees with the label on the car, the label wins.

Tyre pressure questions

What tyre pressure should a Hyundai i20 have?

It depends on the tyre size and, on some versions, the engine. For the sizes Hyundai lists, the normal-load pressure is 32–38 psi (2.2–2.6 bar) at the front and 31–38 psi (2.2–2.6 bar) at the rear. Find your size in the tables above, and check the tyres cold.

What size tyres does a Hyundai i20 take?

Hyundai fitted the i20 with 175/70 R14, 185/60 R15, 185/65 R15, 195/50 R16, 195/55 R16, 205/45 R17, 215/45 R17 and 215/40 R18, depending on the generation and trim. The size is printed on the side of your tyre; the pressures above are listed by size.

Where is the tyre pressure label on a Hyundai i20?

On most cars it is on the driver's door pillar or inside the fuel filler flap. It normally gives the same figures as the handbook, which is where the ones on this page come from — if the two ever disagree, go by the label on your car.

When should I use the fully laden pressures?

When the car is carrying a full load — every seat taken, a full boot or a trailer. For everyday driving use the normal figures.
