Recall: engine compartment covers can come loose (2020–22)
Some Kodiaq, Octavia and Superb models built between September 2020 and February 2022 were fitted with engine compartment covers that could work loose from their mountings, however the car is driven. Dealers remove the cover.
Applies to: Kodiaq Mk1, Octavia Mk4 and Superb Mk3 built September 2020 – February 2022
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Skoda dealer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

Recall: plug-in hybrid high-voltage fuse may lack sand filling
Some Octavia iV and Superb iV plug-in hybrids built between December 2019 and February 2022 have a fuse in the high-voltage system that was made with too little of the fire-extinguishing sand packed inside it. Dealers fit an extra insulating mat over the high-voltage battery's switch box.
Applies to: Octavia Mk4 and Superb Mk3 plug-in hybrids (iV) built December 2019 – February 2022
Plug-in hybrid (iV) versions only. A Skoda dealer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

Recall: brake fluid reservoir can melt and leak (DSG, 2019–23)
On some Octavias and Superbs with a DSG automatic gearbox and an electromechanical brake servo, built from mid-2019 to November 2023, a heat protection mat may have been fitted wrongly. In individual cases the brake fluid reservoir could melt and leak brake fluid into the engine bay. Dealers check the mat and, where needed, refit it and add an extra heat shield.
Applies to: Octavia Mk4 (built May 2020 – November 2023) and Superb Mk3 (built June 2019 – November 2023) with a DSG automatic gearbox
Only cars with the DSG automatic gearbox and the electromechanical brake servo are affected, and DVLA does not record the gearbox. A Skoda dealer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

Software glitches: infotainment failures and warning lights
Electronic glitches are the most common complaint on this Octavia, above all the touchscreen infotainment, which owners describe as glitchy or unresponsive and which can fail outright; some also report warning lights with no clear cause and repeat dealer visits. Software updates often help. Infotainment was the biggest single fault area for this Octavia in the What Car? Reliability Survey.

7-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200): judder, clutch wear, mechatronic
The 7-speed DSG automatic with dry clutches, fitted behind the smaller petrol engines, is the DSG variant specialists see most. Owners notice judder or jerking when pulling away and at low speed, harsh or delayed changes, or a flashing gear display and limp mode. Causes are worn clutches, worst in stop-start town driving, or a failing mechatronic control unit; fixes range from a software update or clutch replacement to a mechatronic repair.
Applies to: VW Golf, Polo, T-Roc and T-Cross, Audi A1 and A3, SEAT Ibiza and Leon, Skoda Fabia and Octavia with the 7-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200), built from 2012
DVLA does not record the gearbox. This applies only to cars with the 7-speed dry-clutch DSG automatic (DQ200), usually paired with the smaller petrol engines — not manual cars, and not the 6-speed or heavier-duty wet-clutch DSGs.

If it has the VW Group EA888 1.8 / 2.0 TSI petrol: 1.8 / 2.0 TSI in Golf Mk7 and Octavia Mk3: timing chain stretch
Some Mk7 Golfs and Mk3 Octavias with the chain-driven 1.8 or 2.0 TSI petrol have suffered stretched timing chains or worn chain guides; on early Golfs most were fixed under warranty. The warning sign is a chattering or 'zinging' rattle for a second or two after a cold start, and a VW diagnostic check can measure chain stretch on high-mileage cars. Oil of the wrong grade or late oil changes make it worse, so a full service history matters.
Applies to: VW Golf Mk7 (2013–2020) and Skoda Octavia Mk3 (2013–2020) with the chain-driven 1.8 or 2.0 TSI petrol (incl. GTI, R and vRS)
The 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 1.5 TSI petrols in these models use a cambelt, not a chain, so this does not apply to them.

Measured at MOT: how a 2023 Octavia fails more often
Based on 19,670 first MOT tests of this model at 3 years old (cars first used 2021–2022), compared against every car of the same age and fuel.
Nothing stands out. No category fails clearly more often on this model than on cars of the same age and fuel.
How to read this
These are MOT outcomes for other cars of the same model, age and fuel — not a prediction about this one, and not a fault diagnosis. A high rate means the category is worth checking, not that this car has a problem.
A comparison is only shown where it survives its own margin of error. Where a model is only slightly above average, both rates are shown and no multiple is given, because the data cannot tell the difference.
MOT results reflect how a car has been used and maintained as much as the model itself. High mileage, short journeys and deferred servicing all show up here.

Recall: rear door child locks can switch off (2015–16 builds)
On Citigo, Rapid and Octavia models built between late November 2015 and mid-April 2016, the manual child locks on the rear doors could disengage without the driver knowing, so a rear door could be opened from inside. Dealers inspect the lock mechanism and replace it where needed.
Applies to: Citigo, Rapid and Octavia Mk3 built 25 November 2015 – 14 April 2016
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Skoda dealer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

Recall: rear wheel bearing housings may crack (August 2017)
A small batch of Octavias and Superbs built in August 2017 may have rear wheel bearing housings that were not hardened properly. A cracked housing would cause unusual noises and bad tyre wear, and in the worst case a wheel could come off. Dealers replace both rear housings.
Applies to: Octavia Mk3 and Superb Mk3 built August 2017
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Skoda dealer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

Recall: rear seat head restraint mounting may be badly welded (2018)
On some Karoqs and Octavias built between May and August 2018, the weld that holds the rear seat back's head restraint mounting may not have been made properly. Dealers check the rear seat back frame and replace it if needed.
Applies to: Karoq and Octavia Mk3 built May – August 2018

Recall: camshaft adjuster pulley can break (2014 builds)
On a small number of cars built between December 2013 and late 2014, the housing bolts of the camshaft adjuster can work loose and the adjuster's belt pulley can break, which disrupts the engine's valve timing. Under the DVSA recall, dealers replace the camshaft adjuster.
Applies to: VW Golf and Polo, SEAT Leon, Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia built December 2013 – December 2014 (R/2019/261, 262, 263, 283)
About 2,000 UK cars across the four recalls, in specific VIN ranges. The recalls do not name the engine, so DVLA data cannot tell whether your car is one of them; a dealer or the DVSA recall check can.

Touchscreen and sat-nav glitches, freezes and slow responses
Owners report glitches with the touchscreen infotainment and sat-nav — slow responses and frozen screens — alongside other minor electrical niggles. Parkers says it is most common on 2017-on facelifted cars with the large 9.2-inch Columbus system, so try entering a destination on a test drive.
Applies to: Octavia Mk3 (2013–2020), especially facelifted 2017-on cars with sat-nav
Depends on which infotainment system the car has (base Octavia S models have no touchscreen), and DVLA does not record that.

What are the most common Octavia problems?
For cars built from 2012, the problems at least two independent publishers report include: Software glitches: infotainment failures and warning lights; 7-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200): judder, clutch wear, mechatronic; 1.8 / 2.0 TSI in Golf Mk7 and Octavia Mk3: timing chain stretch; Touchscreen and sat-nav glitches, freezes and slow responses; Water can collect in the front doors and reach the footwells. Has the Octavia been recalled?
Yes. DVSA lists recalls for the Octavia built from 2012, shown above by generation. A recall covers a range of chassis numbers, so not every car is affected — check a specific car by VIN on GOV.UK, or by registration with our checker.
Does my Octavia have these problems?
Not necessarily. These describe the model; many cars never have them, and a well-maintained car is less likely to. Enter your registration above to see the problems for your exact generation and engine, and whether DVSA records an outstanding recall on it. Whether a known problem was fixed is what a service history check shows.
Has this Octavia had the work done?
A known problem matters far less on a car whose dealer records show it was fixed. A service history check returns the manufacturer's own dealership records for a specific car — and there's no charge if we find nothing.
