Recall: front passenger airbag may rupture when it fires (2021–22)
Fabias built between September 2021 and June 2022 were fitted with a front passenger airbag that could rupture when it deployed and so might not protect properly. Dealers replace the passenger airbag module with a modified unit.
Applies to: Fabia Mk4 built 16 September 2021 – 16 June 2022
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Skoda dealer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

Recall: passenger airbag cover may rupture (Fabia, Superb, 2022–25)
On some Fabias and Superbs, if the front passenger airbag fires in a crash its gas generator cover may rupture and the airbag may protect less well. Dealers replace the passenger airbag; until then Skoda advises switching the passenger airbag off as the handbook describes and not using the front passenger seat.
Applies to: Fabia Mk4 built September 2022 – March 2025 and Superb Mk4 built January – March 2025
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Skoda dealer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

7-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200): judder, clutch wear, mechatronic
The 7-speed DSG automatic with dry clutches, fitted behind the smaller petrol engines, is the DSG variant specialists see most. Owners notice judder or jerking when pulling away and at low speed, harsh or delayed changes, or a flashing gear display and limp mode. Causes are worn clutches, worst in stop-start town driving, or a failing mechatronic control unit; fixes range from a software update or clutch replacement to a mechatronic repair.
Applies to: VW Golf, Polo, T-Roc and T-Cross, Audi A1 and A3, SEAT Ibiza and Leon, Skoda Fabia and Octavia with the 7-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200), built from 2012
DVLA does not record the gearbox. This applies only to cars with the 7-speed dry-clutch DSG automatic (DQ200), usually paired with the smaller petrol engines — not manual cars, and not the 6-speed or heavier-duty wet-clutch DSGs.

Recall: driver's airbag may not inflate fast enough (early 2018)
A batch of Skodas built in January and February 2018 may have a driver's airbag that does not inflate quickly enough when it fires. Dealers replace the steering wheel airbag.
Applies to: Kodiaq, Octavia Mk3, Fabia Mk3, Superb Mk3 and Rapid built 8 January – 28 February 2018
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Skoda dealer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.
- Recall · Volkswagen GroupFuel system
If it has the VW Group 1.2 TDI common-rail diesel (55 kW): Recall: 1.2 TDI diesel fuel filter can crack and leak
On the 1.2-litre three-cylinder common-rail diesel (1.2 TDI, 55 kW) built 2010–2014, the fuel filter can crack around its inlet connection and leak diesel. Owners may smell fuel inside the car, and leaked fuel on the road is a hazard to other traffic. Under the DVSA recall, dealers check which filter is fitted and replace it with the improved type if needed.
Applies to: VW Polo, SEAT Ibiza, Skoda Fabia and Roomster with the 1.2 TDI common-rail diesel, built April 2010 – October 2014 (R/2014/143, 144, 148)
Only cars in the recalled VIN ranges; a dealer or the DVSA recall check can confirm whether it applies and whether the improved filter is already fitted.

Warning lights with no clear cause, often the Front Assist radar
Owners report dashboard warning lights coming on with no obvious cause, sometimes taking repeat dealer visits to diagnose. A frequent one is the Front Assist (automatic emergency braking) warning: its radar sensor in the front bumper or grille is sensitive to dirt, heavy rain and slight misalignment after a parking knock, so cleaning it and checking its mounting is worth doing before paying for diagnosis.
Applies to: Fabia Mk3 (2014–2021)
The Front Assist part applies only to cars with Front Assist, which was missing from the entry-level Fabia S before the September 2018 facelift; DVLA does not record trim.

Measured at MOT: how a 2018 Fabia fails more often
Based on 37,191 first MOT tests of this model at 8 years old (cars first used 2016–2017), compared against every car of the same age and fuel.
Nothing stands out. No category fails clearly more often on this model than on cars of the same age and fuel.
How to read this
These are MOT outcomes for other cars of the same model, age and fuel — not a prediction about this one, and not a fault diagnosis. A high rate means the category is worth checking, not that this car has a problem.
A comparison is only shown where it survives its own margin of error. Where a model is only slightly above average, both rates are shown and no multiple is given, because the data cannot tell the difference.
MOT results reflect how a car has been used and maintained as much as the model itself. High mileage, short journeys and deferred servicing all show up here.

Dashboard and interior trim creaks and rattles
The Fabia Mk2 uses cheaper interior materials than its Polo sibling, and loose trim can make the dashboard creak and rattle; switches such as the electric window buttons can come away from their surrounds. Listen with the radio off on a test drive.

- Incorrect curtain airbag may activateR/2007/095 · 30/07/2007
It has been identified that some of the wires within airbag control unit block connector have been incorrectly installed. In the event of a collision this will result in the activation of the curtain airbag on the opposite side to the impact.
Remedy: Recalled vehicles will have the wiring to the control unit checked and rectified should this be necessary.

MOT failure rate: the Fabia against vehicles its age
In our analysis of DVSA's anonymised MOT data for 2024 and 2025, 30.1% of 449,433 initial MOT tests on the Skoda Fabia failed at the first attempt — about as often as vehicles of the same ages and fuel types, which failed 29.8%.

These describe the model, not one car. Plenty of cars never have the problems their model is known for, and a recall may already have been done on yours. Every problem links to its sources; a reported problem needs two independent publishers before we list it.

Common questions
What are the most common Fabia problems?
For cars built from 2012, the problems at least two independent publishers report include: 7-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200): judder, clutch wear, mechatronic; Warning lights with no clear cause, often the Front Assist radar; Dashboard and interior trim creaks and rattles. Which apply depends on the generation and engine — they are listed generation by generation above, each with its sources.
Has the Fabia been recalled?
Yes. DVSA lists recalls for the Fabia built from 2012, shown above by generation. A recall covers a range of chassis numbers, so not every car is affected — check a specific car by VIN on GOV.UK, or by registration with our checker.
Does my Fabia have these problems?
Not necessarily. These describe the model; many cars never have them, and a well-maintained car is less likely to. Enter your registration above to see the problems for your exact generation and engine, and whether DVSA records an outstanding recall on it. Whether a known problem was fixed is what a service history check shows.
Has this Fabia had the work done?
A known problem matters far less on a car whose dealer records show it was fixed. A service history check returns the manufacturer's own dealership records for a specific car — and there's no charge if we find nothing.
