If it has the Renault-Nissan 1.2 TCe / 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol (H5Ft / HRA2DDT): 1.2 TCe / 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol: high oil consumption
The 1.2 turbo petrol shared by Renault, Dacia and Nissan has a widely reported thirst for oil, put down to its piston rings. The level can fall dangerously low between services if nobody checks it, and some engines have needed replacing. Check the dipstick often — Auto Express suggests every 1,000–2,000 miles — and keep receipts for any top-ups.
Applies to: Renault, Dacia and Nissan with the 1.2 TCe / 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol (H5Ft / HRA2DDT, about 2012–2019): Clio Mk4 TCe 120, Captur Mk1 TCe 120, Mégane Mk4 TCe 130, Kadjar TCe 130, Duster TCe 125, Qashqai Mk2, Juke Mk1 and Pulsar 1.2 DIG-T. The complaint brought in France covers cars built 2012–2016.
DVLA records the capacity, not the engine code. At 1,197cc this is the turbo 1.2 TCe / DIG-T; Renault's older non-turbo 1.2 16v (1,149cc) and Nissan's 1.2 in the Micra and Note are different engines.

If it has the Nissan 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol (HRA2DDT): 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol: timing chain wear and rattle
Timing chain wear is reported on Nissan's 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol, heard as a rattle from the engine, often under acceleration. Low oil — this engine's other known weakness — does not help. Listen carefully on a test drive, keep the oil topped up, and have any new rattle checked promptly before the chain jumps a tooth.
Applies to: Nissan Qashqai Mk2 (from 2014) and Juke Mk1 (from the 2014 facelift) with the 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol (HRA2DDT), until the 1.3 DIG-T replaced it in 2019
DVLA records the capacity, not the engine: at 1,197cc this is the 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol.

If it has the Renault-Nissan 1.5 dCi diesel (K9K): 1.5 dCi diesel: DPF clogging on short trips
The diesel particulate filter on the 1.5 dCi is known to clog on cars that mostly do short, slow journeys, bringing up a warning light and costing a lot if the filter has to be replaced. Interrupted regenerations can also wash fuel into the oil, so the oil level slowly rises — a sign to have it checked. A regular motorway run helps; a mainly town car is better off as a petrol.
Applies to: Renault, Dacia and Nissan with the 1.5 dCi diesel (K9K) and a particulate filter, including Clio, Captur, Mégane, Scénic, Kadjar, Duster, Sandero, Logan, Micra, Note, Juke, Qashqai and Pulsar
Mostly a problem for cars used on short trips; a diesel that has done regular long runs is far less likely to have it.

If it has the Renault-Nissan 1.5 dCi diesel (K9K): 1.5 dCi diesel: timing belt failures, some before the due date
The 1.5 dCi uses a timing belt, and belt failures are reported — some before the official change interval. A belt that snaps can wreck the engine. Intervals vary by model and year (from about four years / 60,000 miles to six years / 90,000 miles), and several sources suggest doing it early. Check the history for a belt, tensioner and water pump change.
Applies to: Renault, Dacia and Nissan with the 1.5 dCi diesel (K9K), including Clio, Captur, Mégane, Scénic, Kadjar, Duster, Sandero, Logan, Micra, Note, Juke, Qashqai and Pulsar
DVSA recalls for the Juke Mk2 (F16)
Listed by DVSA for this model during these build years. Not every car is affected — check yours by VIN on GOV.UK.
- Juke (F16) Right Hand Rear DoorR/2024/179 · 25/04/2024
On affected vehicles the right-hand rear door welds may be out of specification. The door may rattle and a side impact may increase the risk of deformation. In the extreme impact could cause the hinge to fail and the door to open.
Remedy: Replace the rear right-hand door.

- Juke (F16) Qashqai (J12) and Leaf (ZE1) VIN ScanR/2024/234 · 17/06/2024
On affected vehicles the VIN stored in the vehicle system may not match the actual VIN of the vehicle. This may lead to a situation where a vehicle user can see information related to a different vehicle resulting in a data security breach.
Remedy: Replace the navigation display / control unit and the telematics control unit.

Measured at MOT: how a 2023 Juke fails more often
Based on 36,138 first MOT tests of this model at 3 years old (cars first used 2021–2022), compared against every car of the same age and fuel.
Nothing stands out. No category fails clearly more often on this model than on cars of the same age and fuel.
How to read this
These are MOT outcomes for other cars of the same model, age and fuel — not a prediction about this one, and not a fault diagnosis. A high rate means the category is worth checking, not that this car has a problem.
A comparison is only shown where it survives its own margin of error. Where a model is only slightly above average, both rates are shown and no multiple is given, because the data cannot tell the difference.
MOT results reflect how a car has been used and maintained as much as the model itself. High mileage, short journeys and deferred servicing all show up here.

Recall: rear oxygen sensor can fail without a warning
If the supply to the rear exhaust oxygen sensor shorts, the sensor fails but the driver may not get an immediate warning; the engine light may only come on after more driving. Dealers reprogram the engine ECU so it warns when the sensor fails.
Applies to: Qashqai Mk2, Juke Mk1, X-Trail Mk3 and Pulsar built April 2014 – May 2016
- Recall · NissanBody & corrosion
Recall: rear door child lock switch can move
On almost 300,000 Nissans built from late 2015 to mid-2016 the rear door child lock switch may not be held in place firmly enough, so the lock can be knocked out of position. Dealers fit an extra part into the switch opening.
Applies to: Qashqai Mk2, Juke Mk1, Note Mk2, Pulsar and Navara NP300 built September 2015 – August 2016
- Recall · NissanElectrics
Recall: push-start button can stick in and stop the engine
On cars with keyless push-button start built mid-2013 to early 2015, the start button can stay pressed in after starting. If the car is driven like that, the emergency engine-stop function can cut the engine unexpectedly. Dealers inspect and modify the switch housing.
Applies to: Micra Mk4, Juke Mk1, Note Mk2 and Leaf Mk1 with push-button start, built June 2013 – March 2015
Only cars with keyless push-button start, which DVLA does not record.
- Recall · NissanFuel system
Recall: fuel pressure sensor can loosen and leak fuel
On some early Jukes the fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail was not tightened to specification. Engine heat and vibration can loosen it and, in extreme cases, fuel can leak. There were two campaigns covering builds from 2010 to May 2014; dealers re-tighten the sensor and replace its seal if needed.
Applies to: Juke Mk1 (F15) built March 2010 – May 2014
- Recall · NissanInterior
Recall: driver airbag can let hot gas through when it fires
On Jukes built June–July 2012, hot gas from the driver airbag inflator can make small holes in the airbag when it deploys, and the hot gas or material can touch the driver's skin. Deployment itself is not affected. Dealers replace the driver airbag.
Applies to: Juke Mk1 (F15) built June – July 2012
- Recall · NissanElectrics
Recall: ignition switch spring can switch the engine off
On Jukes built April–June 2017, a spring inside the ignition switch may have a surface defect that can turn the engine off while driving. Dealers inspect the switch and replace it where necessary.
Applies to: Juke Mk1 (F15) built April – June 2017
- Recall · NissanTurbo
If it has the Renault-Nissan 1.5 dCi diesel (K9K): Recall: turbo boost sensor bracket can cause stalling
On early Juke diesels the turbo boost sensor bracket can come away from the air inlet tube. The engine warning light may come on and, at low speed, the engine can stall and not restart. Dealers inspect the air inlet tube and replace it if needed.
Applies to: Nissan Juke Mk1 1.5 dCi diesel listed by DVSA for 2010–2011

CVT automatic: judder and gearbox failure
The CVT (Xtronic) automatic on the first Juke has a poor reliability record, especially before its 2014 revision. Repairs are rarely possible, so a failed gearbox usually means a replacement unit; Nissan has contributed to the cost in some cases. Judder, warning lights or unusual noises are the signs, and regular fluid changes are what owners and specialists advise.
Applies to: Juke Mk1 (2010–2019) petrol with the CVT (Xtronic) automatic, including all 4x4 Jukes
DVLA does not record the gearbox, so this shows for every petrol Juke Mk1 — it only applies to the CVT automatic.

Turbocharger problems on turbo petrol and diesel versions
Turbo faults are reported on the first Juke's turbocharged engines. On the 1.6 DIG-T, slow response can point to oil starvation of the turbo, and its pipework and wastegate controls also give trouble. Regular oil changes are the advice for avoiding it.
Applies to: Juke Mk1 (2010–2019) with a turbo engine — 1.6 DIG-T (incl. Nismo), 1.2 DIG-T or 1.5 dCi diesel
The non-turbo 1.6 petrol is not affected — DVLA records the capacity but not the turbo, so check the badge (1.6 DIG-T, Nismo, DIG-T or dCi).

Air conditioning can stop blowing cold
The first Juke's air conditioning is known to stop working. Two causes are reported: the pipe to the air-con pump can shear, and refrigerant can leak from the condenser, which sits exposed at the front of the car. Auto Express puts putting it right at more than £500.
Applies to: Juke Mk1 (F15, 2010–2019)
- Reported by 2 publishersBody & corrosion
Rust on suspension mounts, sills and subframes
Early first-generation Jukes are showing rust. The places to check are the front suspension mountings under the bonnet, the sills, the front and rear subframes and around the base of the windscreen. Heavy subframe corrosion makes suspension work dearer because bolts seize.
Applies to: Juke Mk1 (F15, 2010–2019), oldest cars first

If it has the Nissan 1.6 DIG-T turbo petrol (MR16DDT): 1.6 DIG-T turbo petrol: timing chain can stretch
The timing chain on the 1.6 DIG-T turbo petrol (including the Juke Nismo) is known to stretch at higher mileages. An early rattle is the warning; by the time it is audibly slapping, more damage may have been done. Look for evidence of a chain replacement on a high-mileage car.
Applies to: Juke Mk1 (2010–2019) 1.6 DIG-T and Nismo petrol (MR16DDT)

The complaint brought in France covers cars built 2012–2016.
DVLA records the capacity, not the engine code. At 1,197cc this is the turbo 1.2 TCe / DIG-T; Renault's older non-turbo 1.2 16v (1,149cc) and Nissan's 1.2 in the Micra and Note are different engines.

Common questions
What are the most common Juke problems?
For cars built from 2012, the problems at least two independent publishers report include: 1.2 TCe / 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol: high oil consumption; 1.2 DIG-T turbo petrol: timing chain wear and rattle; 1.5 dCi diesel: DPF clogging on short trips; 1.5 dCi diesel: timing belt failures, some before the due date; CVT automatic: judder and gearbox failure. Which apply depends on the generation and engine — they are listed generation by generation above, each with its sources.
Has the Juke been recalled?
Yes. DVSA lists recalls for the Juke built from 2012, shown above by generation. A recall covers a range of chassis numbers, so not every car is affected — check a specific car by VIN on GOV.UK, or by registration with our checker.
Does my Juke have these problems?
Not necessarily. These describe the model; many cars never have them, and a well-maintained car is less likely to. Enter your registration above to see the problems for your exact generation and engine, and whether DVSA records an outstanding recall on it. Whether a known problem was fixed is what a service history check shows.
Has this Juke had the work done?
A known problem matters far less on a car whose dealer records show it was fixed. A service history check returns the manufacturer's own dealership records for a specific car — and there's no charge if we find nothing.
