Recall: engine wiring harness can chafe, engine may cut out
On Evoques and Discovery Sports built from July to October 2015, an engine wiring harness could chafe and cause the engine to malfunction or, in extreme cases, cut out. A first fix (R/2015/235) was later found not to last, so a second recall (R/2016/302) inspects and repairs the harness and fits a new bracket.
Applies to: Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport built 9 July – 16 October 2015 (R/2015/235, R/2016/302)
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Land Rover retailer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

Recall: diesel fuel hoses on top of the engine can chafe and leak
On diesel Evoques and Discovery Sports built from March 2015 to April 2016, fuel hoses under the engine cover could rub through. A strong diesel smell is the warning; fuel could reach the exhaust manifold (fire risk) or the road. Dealers trim the cover's posts and replace damaged hoses.
Applies to: Diesel Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport built 5 March 2015 – 22 April 2016 (R/2016/131)
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Land Rover retailer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.
- Recall · Jaguar Land RoverFuel system
Recall: petrol fuel rail end caps can leak fuel into the engine bay
On some 2.0-litre petrol cars built from May 2016 to early 2018, the brazed end caps on the fuel rail may not seal, letting fuel vapour and liquid fuel leak into the engine bay. The fuel rail is replaced.
Applies to: Petrol Land Rovers built 5 May 2016 – 31 January 2018 (R/2018/036) and petrol Jaguars built 1 September 2016 – 17 August 2017 (R/2018/035)
Recalls cover a limited production run, and DVSA does not name the engine; Auto Express reports that only the 2.0-litre petrol was affected. A Land Rover or Jaguar retailer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.
- Recall · Land RoverHybrid & electric drive
Recall: 48-volt mild-hybrid electrical overload
On Evoques and Discovery Sports built from May 2018 to October 2020, an electrical overload in the 48-volt mild-hybrid system could make a power transistor fail. A software update prevents it.
Applies to: Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport built 25 May 2018 – 2 October 2020 (R/2020/322)
Mild-hybrid models only; DVLA often records a mild hybrid as plain petrol or diesel. A Land Rover retailer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included.
- Recall · Jaguar Land RoverFuel system
Recall: fuel return hose may be faulty
Some cars built between late 2019 and spring 2021 may have a badly made rubber fuel return hose. Dealers check the date code on the part and replace it where needed.
Applies to: Evoque, Discovery Sport and Velar built 8 January 2020 – 27 April 2021 (R/2021/231); Jaguar XE, XF, E-Pace and F-Pace built 25 November 2019 – 16 April 2021 (R/2021/230)
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Land Rover or Jaguar retailer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.
- Recall · Jaguar Land RoverTurbo
Recall: turbo oil feed pipe can loosen and leak (2.0 diesel)
On diesel cars with the AJ21-D4 engine built from late 2019 to 2024, the turbocharger's oil feed pipe can loosen over time and leak oil. Dealers fit new O-rings and an extra clamp.
Applies to: Diesel Evoque, Discovery Sport and Velar built January 2020 – September 2024 (R/2024/113); Jaguar XE, XF, E-Pace and F-Pace built November 2019 – July 2024 (R/2024/207)
Recalls cover a limited production run. A Land Rover or Jaguar retailer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.
- Recall · Jaguar Land RoverHybrid & electric drive
Recall: plug-in hybrid may lose power when the battery runs low
On plug-in hybrid Evoques, Discovery Sports and E-Paces built from late 2021, a software fault in the power inverter can stop the petrol engine restarting as the battery runs down in electric mode, so the car loses power without warning. A software update, at a dealer or over the air, fixes it.
Applies to: Plug-in hybrid Evoque and Discovery Sport built November 2021 – July 2025 (R/2025/280) and E-Pace built November 2021 – October 2024 (R/2025/281)
Plug-in hybrids only. A Land Rover or Jaguar retailer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the update has been done.
- Recall · Jaguar Land RoverHybrid & electric drive
Recall: plug-in hybrid battery fire risk
A small number of four-cylinder plug-in hybrids built from 2020 have suffered thermal overload in the high-voltage battery under the rear of the car, which can cause smoke or fire. The root cause was still being investigated; dealers inspect the cars and replace at-risk battery packs.
Applies to: Plug-in hybrid Evoque, Discovery Sport, Defender and Velar built July 2020 – April 2025 (R/2025/553); E-Pace and F-Pace built November 2020 – July 2024 (R/2025/555)
Plug-in hybrids only. A Land Rover or Jaguar retailer can confirm from the VIN whether this car was included and whether the work has been done.

Discovery Sport: squeaks, creaks and rattles
The Discovery Sport draws more complaints than most about squeaks, creaks and rattles from the cabin and trim, some reported on nearly new cars. They can take repeated dealer visits to track down, and some never fully go away; a squeaking tailgate rubbing on a rear light is one example owners report.
Applies to: Discovery Sport (2014 on)

Discovery Sport: air-con, electrical and infotainment faults
Air-conditioning and climate-control faults are among the most common Discovery Sport complaints, alongside warning lights, electrical glitches and an infotainment system that misbehaves. Owners report repeat dealer visits to fix them. A faulty outside-temperature reading is another known niggle; the sensor sits in the door mirror, which has to be replaced.

If it has the 2.0 Ingenium diesel (204DT / AJ200D): 2.0 Ingenium diesel: timing chains stretch and can fail
The 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel used across Land Rover and Jaguar from 2015 has a reputation for its timing chains stretching early. The first sign is usually a metallic rattle on a cold start, sometimes with a reduced-performance warning; left alone, the chain can jump or break and wreck the engine. Specialists link it to fuel-diluted oil from unfinished DPF regenerations and long service intervals, and replace the chains, guides and tensioners together (one specialist quotes about £2,000). There was no recall.
Applies to: 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel (2015 on) in the Evoque, Discovery Sport, Discovery 5, Range Rover Sport, Velar, Defender, Jaguar XE, XF, E-Pace and F-Pace
Applies to the 2.0-litre diesel only, and is reported mostly on earlier engines. DVLA records the capacity (1,999cc) but not the engine family; on these models that capacity is the Ingenium. Many engines with regular oil changes never suffer it.

If it has the 2.0 Ingenium diesel (204DT / AJ200D): 2.0 Ingenium diesel: DPF blockage and fuel diluting the oil
The diesel particulate filter on the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel struggles to clean itself on cars used for short trips. When a regeneration is cut short, extra fuel washes into the sump and thins the oil, which is blamed for faster timing-chain and turbo wear. Owners see DPF and engine warning lights or reduced power, and the service light can come on early. Longer runs, finishing regenerations and more frequent oil changes are the usual advice; a blocked filter needs a forced regeneration, cleaning or replacement.
Applies to: 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel (2015 on) in the Evoque, Discovery Sport, Discovery 5, Range Rover Sport, Velar, Defender, Jaguar XE, XF, E-Pace and F-Pace
Applies to the 2.0-litre diesel only, and mainly to cars used for short journeys.

Measured at MOT: how a 2020 Discovery Sport fails more often
Based on 54,523 first MOT tests of this model at 6 years old (cars first used 2018–2019), compared against every car of the same age and fuel.
Nothing stands out. No category fails clearly more often on this model than on cars of the same age and fuel.
How to read this
These are MOT outcomes for other cars of the same model, age and fuel — not a prediction about this one, and not a fault diagnosis. A high rate means the category is worth checking, not that this car has a problem.
A comparison is only shown where it survives its own margin of error. Where a model is only slightly above average, both rates are shown and no multiple is given, because the data cannot tell the difference.
MOT results reflect how a car has been used and maintained as much as the model itself. High mileage, short journeys and deferred servicing all show up here.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Failure rates derived by FindServiceHistory from the DVSA anonymised MOT test and failure-item extracts.
These describe the model, not one car. Plenty of cars never have the problems their model is known for, and a recall may already have been done on yours. Every problem links to its sources; a reported problem needs two independent publishers before we list it.
Recalls are listed by DVSA for the model around its build date — check a specific car by VIN at GOV.UK. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Common questions
What are the most common Discovery Sport problems?
For cars built from 2012, the problems at least two independent publishers report include: Discovery Sport: squeaks, creaks and rattles; Discovery Sport: air-con, electrical and infotainment faults; 2.0 Ingenium diesel: timing chains stretch and can fail; 2.0 Ingenium diesel: DPF blockage and fuel diluting the oil. Which apply depends on the generation and engine — they are listed generation by generation above, each with its sources.
Has the Discovery Sport been recalled?
Yes. DVSA lists recalls for the Discovery Sport built from 2012, shown above by generation. A recall covers a range of chassis numbers, so not every car is affected — check a specific car by VIN on GOV.UK, or by registration with our checker.
Does my Discovery Sport have these problems?
Not necessarily. These describe the model; many cars never have them, and a well-maintained car is less likely to. Enter your registration above to see the problems for your exact generation and engine, and whether DVSA records an outstanding recall on it. Whether a known problem was fixed is what a service history check shows.
Has this Discovery Sport had the work done?
A known problem matters far less on a car whose dealer records show it was fixed. A service history check returns the manufacturer's own dealership records for a specific car — and there's no charge if we find nothing.
